Happy Thanksgiving

Have a beautiful bird day!

Be Thankful!

Did ya do V this weekend?

OK…Ed and I had a evening without the kids and decided to do what some couples do on a Friday night…go to the movies.

After dropping the kids at one of their grand parent’s house, we headed to nearby Pittsburgh Mill’s CineMark Theater.  I recently heard that the owner of the CineMark was a supporter of Prop 8.  Can anyone confirm this?  Had I heard this before, I would have never spent my gay dollar at this theater.

Back to the story…
We decided on the movie Twilight.  Seemed like a good choice as we have been getting into TrueBlood,  also vampire theme.  The movie was now not what we expected.  No, we did not pay attention to all hype, nor did we read books 1,2 3 or 4.  Vampires + Cute Guys = Gay couple without kids on Friday night spending $8 to sit with young teenage girls and middle aged woman comparing the movie to the books.

I will admit, we found the movie very entertaining and we were not the only guys there.  Crowds don’t bother me, but when the first 2 viewings were sold out and all we saw were teenagers, I should have figured this was a popular show.    Best looking guy (other than Ed) award goes to actor Cam Gigandet in Twilight.

My opinion of course.  Ed disapproved of my selection.

In case the above photo did nothing for you…check this out!

Cutie?

The movie was long.  We didn’t get home from Pittsburgh Mills until 1am.  Ed…I enjoyed the movie and your company.  I love you.

Pitt, what happened Saturday night?    I am very concerned about the BACKYARD BRAWL to be contested on Friday at Heinz Field.  It should be one hell of a game.  Anyone else going?

Saturday night was the Lambda Ball.  Did you attend?  What was your opinion?

Chris brought his girlfriend home from school.  What a nice girl.  We met her a while ago and have seen her several time.  Chris has great taste in women.  Not only is she pretty, but she has a great head on her shoulders and is fun to be around.  His last girlfriend was too.

The coming week should be pretty quiet now that the December issue is finished and delivered.  I don’t expect to much crazy as the Thanksgiving holiday is Thursday.  We plan to spend the day at my sisters for lunch and dinner with Ed’s mom and step-dad.  The dinner has been moved to our house.  That is fine with me.  It takes some of the hustle out of the day.  I will appreciate the short walk to my family room after dinner to watch the game.   No driving home…

My regular readers may have discovered that Ed and I don’t sound like the partying types jumping from bar to bar every Friday and Saturday night.  Don’t get me wrong.  We enjoy P-Town, Eagle, Pegs, Images and Lucky’s occassionally…especially when they have dancers, (not to mention Donny’s, Leather Central, Tilden, Cattivo, Blue Moon, Brewers, Link, 941, Spin and There),  but when you decide to have kids and a family life, the bar scene becomes secondary.   Some couples can juggle them.  We choose not to.  There is nothing wrong with hanging out at one of the many bars in Pittsburgh.  Hell, Ed and I have done our fair share of donating to these establishments.   If we do go out for cocktails, it is always to a lgbt establishments.  It is my belief and desire to support every lgbt bar in the city.  If you visit most cities in the country, it doesn’t take long to realize that lgbt bars are a dying breed.  Pittsburgh has an incredibly large number.

Many blame the internet, DUI laws, drink taxes and the that the younger generation that feels comfortable in straight bars as a reason for decline.

I am not telling you to not to frequent non-lgbt establishments.  What I am saying is that when you spend your gay dollar in a gay business, that  gay dollar trickles now.  The dollars from customers buying ad space in Out are used to pay our employees who take that gay dollar to lgbt businesses.  The cycle continues…

Ok, now that I have told you where to spend your gay dollar, that dancers are hot and family rules in my house, will you hold it against me?  LOL.

Pittsburgh can be a cool place to live and party.  You can not turn on the TV without hearing this city was ranked number 1, one of the top places to ride out the recession, property values continue to rise and much more.  Let’s be proud of these things, but make the lgbt community even stronger.

Weekend with the guys

It’s almost time for the December issue to hit the streets.  I have been very busy getting this issue done with the help of my incredible staff.  What a devoted group of people!  The December issue will be available this Thursday.

Ed and I had a pleasant weekend.  Friday we hung around the house catching up with all the shows we missed throughout the week.  I love together time!

Saturday morning was all about the house.  After sleeping in until 9am, I got out of bed and made some fresh brewed coffee.  Unfortunately, we were out of Dancing Goat coffee and had to settle with a different whole bean brand from Sam’s.  If you love coffee, you got to try www.DancingGoats.com!

Don’t you just love cleaning the house on Saturday?  Later that day, we were meeting Ed’s cousin and his boyfriend along with his aunt and some other people.  It was a very enjoyable afternoon and evening.  It was the first time we have seen his cousin in a few years and the first meeting of his boyfriend.

Although Sunday started very early, the rest of the day was wonderful even with a little snow.  I got away for a few hours and visited with mom and then my father.  One thing that I have learned…We need to appreciate our parents more.

Sunday afternoon and evening was all about the Steelers and then Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters.  The Steelers won!  Desperate Housewives was pretty good too.  But, Brothers and Sisters was my favorite…behind the Steelers and TrueBlood.

Great weekend.  I love spending time with my loved ones.

We missed the Prop 8 protest on Saturday, but lived the event through John Colombo, one of Out’s photographer.  Check out the December issue for incredible photographs of the protest.  I am so proud of you Pittsburgh!

PROTEST AT SCHENLEY PLAZA NOV. 15!

Hi everyone.

It has been busy around the office as we prepare the December 2008 issue of Out.  What’s new?  Most of our readers have noticed some changes lately.  And the changes continue with the December issue.

We now include color Face and Places photographs and some layout changes. One of the most obvious advancements has been increased printing quality.   Now in HD!  Well, not exactly, but I believe crisper photographs, high-res ads and clearer type make the newspaper look fabulous!

The November issue showcased some of F.J. Hartland’s work.  F.J. is our newest addition to the newspaper.  Welcome to the Out family F.J.!

I am very pleased with the new direction we have taken to produce a high quality newspaper for you, but it doesn’t stop there.  Out’s online presence has been redesigned using the latest software to give our viewers an lgbt experience not found in the ‘Burgh or even in the region.  Check out the “all new” www.outonline.comto experience 24/7 video feeds and all the news and entertainment you want at your fingertips.  In addition, David Stanton and I are currently working on a new website called OUTmedia and OUTmobile.  Check back to www.outonline.com for launch dates.

We just taped a episode #10 of Talk it OUT on Out TV Pittsburgh at www.outonline.com(of course).   We discussed many of the hot button topics that the lgbt community is talking about.  This is a must hear show.  David should have it online shortly.  You can find it on our website in “Explore our Podcast” area.  Tune in every Wednesday at 11am for a live broadcast.

Want to be a guest on Talk it OUT or OUT takes?  Contact Tony Molnar-Strejcek at tony@outonline.com.

The Prop 8 issue is still being talked about around the country.  It should be!  Organizations are organizing protests in most major cities in the US.

Good Times. No alcohol needed.

Hi Folks.

Busy weekend here.  I wanted to take a minute to direct you to www.outonline.com.  We just uploaded a totally new look.  Looks pretty and it is much more easy to navigate.  Sort of like that guy or girl you are chatting up at 1:50am on Saturday night, but with more resources and no regrets.   And, might I add…our site www.outonline.com is pretty 24/7, not just in bar light after a few cocktails at last call.

News stories, Scene, Features and Services, not to mention 24/7 videos on OTV are all a quick click.  www.outonline.com.

So you may ask–why change?  Our site is getting thousands of visitors a day and we wanted to offer the latest technology as a thank you.  Sounds good, doesn’t it?
