We R Family

We are taping Talk It Out at 11am Wednesday live.  Catch the show on Podcast later this week.  Don’t worry if you you miss the the live broadcast every Wednesday at 11am.  All our show can be found on www.outonline.com and available whenever you want to listen.

Also tomorrow, the latest episode of Out Takes is being shot on location at the Out offices.  This show will highlight articles and events in the December issue (on newsstand now) and other current events.  Join David Stanton and me on OTV www.outonline.com’s or on Out Takes podcasts.

On Wednesday night, Ed and I will talking our younger boys to see “Walking with Dinosaurs — The Live Experience,” which opens Wednesday at Mellon Arena.  http://www.postgazette.com/multimedia/?videoID=101238.    I love this kind of stuff.

Check out the Dinosaurs at Carnegie Museum in Oakland and while you are there, don’t miss the Life on Mars exhibit now in it’s final days.

Pittsburgh has so much to offer families like mine and “family”–gays and lesbians.  We always purchase family memberships and are never questioned about our non-traditional family.  Guess what?  They don’t care if you gay, straight or from Mars.  Well–maybe the Mars part is a stretch.

Our non-traditional family is made up of three boys, Ed and me.  We don’t think we are a better family than our neighbors, nor do we think we are beneath other ones.  Are we different?  Well–of course!  Most families are different.  People are different.  That is what makes this country so special.  However, we need to work on the same rights issue.

We are a family because we choose to be.  How cool is that?  Never will you find us changing to meet other’s view of a family.  We are who are.  Sounds like an old dance song…     Guess what?   We make no excuses for it.  Believe it or not, most people respect that.  This country is ours, too.  We deserve respect and have earned it.

Ed and I do not see ourselves as role models, but if our family gives other gay and lesbian couples hope, then be it.

Perfect we are not.  Look close enough and you will see the flaws.  Dig deeper and you will see we are just like you.   Family in more ways than one…
