I am really enjoying the weekend.
Thursday: I rushed to get the newspapers done so I could get home and spend time with Ed and our guests. We ate dinner and chatted all evening.
Friday: Ed and I got the kids off to school then made breakfast for Matt and Jerry. The guys are always making breakfast for their guests at The Light House Inn in Rehoboth Beach, DE. www.lighthouseinn.net. Considering a visit to the very gay friendly RB this spring, summer or fall? Check the Lighthouse Inn out! They have won awards, are the perfect hosts and its 1/2 block to the beach. Most people park their car and walk to fine restaurants and g/l bars. See their ad in upcoming issues of Out. It was this day, they would awake to the smell of eggs and coffee. Over breakfast, the conversation topics varied. There is always plenty to talk about with these guys and the conversation is always interesting.
Friday afternoon: Pittsburgh here we come. The North Shore was our first stop as sightseeing was on the agenda. PNC Park and then the famous home of 6 world trophies, Heinz Field. With the temperature getting colder and art on our mind, we buttoned our coats and headed from the car on Sandusky Street to the world famous Warhol Museum www.warhol.org. This place was fabulous! I felt felt as if we were being followed through out the museum. As it turns out, when entering certain rooms and areas, special supervision is required because of the rarity and value of some of the piece. On the second floor of the Warhol, we were delighted (and proud) to see the January and February issue of Pittsburgh’s Out! Yes, there we were, presented on a table for all visitors to see. Visit their cafe on the lower level for copy of our my newspaper to take home. They are distributed there complimentary.
Friday evening: Off to the Cultural District we go. We arrived early for dinner at SixPenn and had drinks before being seated. The restaurant was very busy as expected. I was very glad I made reservations. We probably would have been dining at Micky ’s had I not. 6:15pm on the nose, we were seated. Our server approached the table, welcomed us and presented the evening’s highlights. He was pleasant, friendly and gay. Thank you for the great and friendly service! Actually, a lot of the staff in this place appeared to be “family”. Earlier at the museum, we discovered the same frightening thing. I asked myself, “Is Pittsburgh turning gay?” Maybe, just maybe, those right wing religious experts that predicted gays would overrun the city now that we have a gay man (and gay friendly people) on city council were correct. Are straight people really leaving the city in fear of it becoming a gay mecca? Getting back to dinner… I had chosen pork chops, and was I ever glad I did. Dinner was served a little slow, but the great conversation kept us going.
We had to be Movin Out and headed on over to the Benedum Center for the dance/musical of the same name. David Dooley and his partner Brian joined us at our seats. The performance was beautiful. Check Movin Out out this week. Find more information at www.pgharts.org, www.outonline.com or the current issue of Out newspaper. Once again, more gay people everywhere!
I have more to tell you about Saturday and Sunday but I am out of time. Check back later today or tomorrow for more of my life.
