Just another week (end) ?

outmarchcover.jpg

It may feel like just another week, but spring is on it’s way and another issue of Pittsburgh’s Out is being put together.  Our publication is now in it’s 38 year.  WOW 38 years!  I was less than 5 years old when the first issue hit the street.  It takes a lot of effort from many people to build the trust and loyalty of the region’s LGBT population and succeed for that period of time.  I thank our loyal readers and our dedicated staff for these achievements.  Here’s to 40 more!

April 2010 issue hits the streets April 1.

Last weekend, we headed to Morgantown for a benefit for Carita’s House, http://caritashouse.net/, an AIDS service organization in West Virginia.  The event was held at the Morgantown Ramada Inn and drew a few hundred people from the West Virginia region.  First, let me say that Out supports non-profit LGBT and LGBT-friendly organizations and businesses unlike any other for the past 38 years.  It is important to help, especially helping people that have been affect by HIV, AIDS, drug abuse or homelessness just to name a few.

We had a blast and were treated very well by the organizers and by the president of organization, James Yost.  The desserts were a treat and the auction items were very desirable.  Ed and I bid on, and won two beautiful lamps to add to the excitement of the evening.

We left the event around 10:30pm to check into our hotel.  We relaxed for a bit and then headed to Vice Versa, Morgantown’s gay bar and probably one of the nicest and most popular in the city.  We walked from our hotel, Hotel Morgan to the bar.  Along the way we met up with  John Colombo, Out’s fabulous and popular In With The Out Crowdcolumnist.  High Street in Morgantown is quite bustling on a Saturday night.  We were stopped along the way by theater goers and images of college age eye-candy.  This street felt like Oakland in Pittsburgh with student seeking out party destinations for the evening.

Waiting at the club were OTV and www.outonline.com’s producer David Stanton, OTV’s Real Deal host Sidney and others.  By midnight, the club was hopping and owners Jame Yost and Taz were buzzing around the place like madmen keeping their guests happy.  This club was busy, but James and Taz both took the time to hangout with us for an extended period of time.  Great WV hospitality guys!

On Sunday, we decided to visit the Rivers Casino on the North Side of Pittsburgh. http://www.theriverscasino.com/.   My expectations were very high.  We have been to the Meadows Casino http://www.meadowsgaming.com/  since it was built and were very impressed.  It was our hope that the city’s new casino was in the same league.  To our delight, Rivers Casino seemed almost as large and offered many of the amenities of which it’s competition.   This place definately has a Pittsburgh flair to it!  I will admit, I favor the Meadows.  I grew up on that racetrack now racino.  My family continues  in the horse racing industry and  perhaps the fact that I have won more money there help with my decision?  I did, however walk into the Rivers and immediately won a few hundred dollars.

On the way home, we met a friend for dinner and then shopped a bit at Sear’s friends and family night.

A good weekend, one that Ed and I desired.  Ed looked so refreshed on Monday and agreed he had fun too.  The boy’s were at their grandparents on Saturday and Sunday.  With the help of a friend that dog sat for us and the boy’s on a sleep over, we were afforded some time for ourselves.  And, did we ever take advantage of it!
