L.A. Times: Positive trend in same-sex marriage polls could bode well for federal challenge to Proposition 8. "There have been at least five national polls since last year that have shown majority and growing support for gay marriage rights.

In the most recent, a Gallup survey on values and beliefs found that 53% of Americans support the right of gays and lesbians to legally marry.

Focus on the Family CEO: ‘We’ve Probably Lost’ on Same-Sex Marriage

Freedom to Marry writes, in a press release:

In an interview in the June 4, 2011 issue of World Magazine, Jim Daly, President and CEO of Focus on the Family, a leading funder of anti-gay attacks concentrated on denying same-sex couples the freedom to marry, declared that the opponents of equality are being repudiated by young people and have "probably lost" on marriage, stating:

We’re losing on that one, especially among the 20- and 30-somethings: 65 to 70 percent of them favor same-sex marriage. I don’t know if that’s going to change with a little more age—demographers would say probably not. We’ve probably lost that.

Said Evan Wolfson, Founder and President of Freedom to Marry: "Focus on the Family finally got something right—the American people are rejecting their anti-gay toxic rhetoric and punitive politics, and are siding with loving and committed couples seeking the freedom to marry.

With six national polls now confirming that a majority of Americans support the freedom to marry, it’s time for Focus on the Family and other anti-gay industry activists to move on and, ideally, redirect their resources toward tackling the real problems gay and non-gay Americans could be confronting together in these tough economic times.”

We are back and were not one of the 3% saved.

Just who is Harold Camping and why did he predict the end was coming?  I think you may be surprised!

Run tape…

Now, that was before May 21.  Here is Mr. Camping the day after his failed judgement day from IB Times.

White House Responds to Anti-Gay Minnesota Marriage Amendment

After 5 1/2 hours of debate, Minnesota’s House of Representatives voted

70-62 on May 21 to send voters a referendum to amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage.

Gay couples already are prohibited from marrying, but supporters of the constitutional amendment said it would be stronger than the current statutory ban.

The White House has issued a statement to the Washington Blade in response to questioning regarding the anti-gay marriage amendment by the Minnesota legislature over the weekend.

“The President has long opposed divisive and discriminatory efforts to deny rights and benefits to same sex couples or to take such rights away. While he believes this is an issue best addressed by the states, he also believes that committed gay couples should have the same rights and responsibilities afforded to any married couple in this country.”

In related news, so many of HRC’s Action Alerts were sent to the Minnesota Senate over the weekend in opposition to the bill that the servers crashed:

"Secretary of the Senate Cal Ludeman said their e-mail servers received about 235,000 messages between 4 p.m. Sunday and about 1:45 a.m. Monday, when the traffic eventually caused them to fail."

Chicago Bulls Center Joakim Noah Fined $50,000 for Anti-Gay Slur

Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah has been fined $50,000 after being caught on camera uttering the words "f**k you faggot" to a fan seated behind him at Sunday night’s Miami Heat game.

The only difference between Noah’s actions and Kobe Bryant’s last month is that Kobe’s slur was directed toward a referee and not a fan.

ESPN reports: "NBA spokesperson Tim Frank said that the two situations were different. ‘Kobe’s fine included discipline for verbal abuse of a game official,’ he said."

clip_image016

When those endlessly protesting bigots at the Westboro Baptist Church announced they would picket Lisa Lampanelli’s show in Topeka Friday, the comedienne promised to donate $1,000 to the Gay Men’s Health Crisis for each member of the church who participated in the protest.

By the end of the night, a total of 44 of the haters had showed up and Lampanelli tweeted that she will give $44,000 to the AIDS service group in the church’s name. The CEO of the Gay Men’s Health Crisis said this about her unique strategy: "Lampanelli is holding up a mirror to bigotry and hatred, and reflecting back love and generosity."
