“Primera Hora” reported yesterday that Ramón “Moncho” Salgado was found dead along the side of a highway in Humacao on the island’s eastern coast.

Thomas J. Bryan Picó, executive director of la Fundación Gaviota, told the newspaper that Salgado was a 46-year-old gay man who lived in Humacao. “Primera Hora” reported that Salgado’s body showed signs of blunt trauma.

Bryan pointed out that Salgado is the third LGBT Puerto Rican who has been found dead in 72 hours. As EDGE reported late Monday, June 6, a transgender woman was found shot to death in a Santurce intersection. Karlota Gómez Sánchez’s body was discovered roughly 48 hours after Alejandro Torres Torres was found stabbed to death in Ponce.

In the past year and a half, 18 LGBT individuals have been killed in Puerto Rico, according to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.

Seattle Mariners to Make ‘It Gets Better’ Video

The Seattle Mariners are the latest baseball franchise to announce they’ll make an "It Gets Better’ Video, USA Today reports:

By Thursday, more than 3,000 fans signed a Mariners petition started by Tacoma, Wash.-resident Eric Williams, an openly gay Army veteran who served two tours in Iraq before his service contract ended June 3.

Williams, 22, says the message would have transformed his youth had he heard it as a 10-year-old growing up in Excelsior Springs, Mo.

"I had nobody, there were no gay people in my area. There were a few sit-com characters and that was it," Williams said. "Seeing this project that puts big names and regular faces out there and tells kids that it does get better is such an awesome thing."

The Mariners deny they were convinced by the petition, however.

"It was something that was on our radar since the Giants’ video," said Mariners spokeswoman Rebecca Hale.

Just last week, the Boston Red Sox joined the San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs in announcing it would contribute videos to the anti-bullying project.

Wingnuts Say Indianapolis Police Will be ‘Howled at by Homosexuals’ in Force’s First Gay Pride Parade

clip_image010

The wingnuts at the Indiana Family Institute are upset that the Indianapolis police force will have a presence in the Gay Pride parade for the first time this year, FOX59 reports:

"The majority of Hoosiers and probably the majority of folks in Indianapolis if they actually went to the Gay Pride Parade and see the activities that goes on there would be shocked to see our taxpayer dollars going to have our men and women in uniform through the police and fire department march in that kind of a parade," says Ryan McCann of The Indiana Family Institute.

McCann says our officers are hired to protect and serve, not to endorse an alternative lifestyle. "They don’t sign up for gay pride parades and all that entails with men in police uniforms being howled at by homosexuals."

The parade happens this Saturday at 10 am.

Rick Santorum Discusses Google Problem: ‘There are Vile People Out There Who Do Horrible Things’

clip_image021 clip_image022

Chuck Todd asked presidential hopeful Rick Santorum about his Google problem this morning, Think Progress reports.

Said Santorum: "Unfortunately, there are vile people out there who do horrible things."

Todd asks Santorum if he thinks Google has any responsibility for the indexing of his name: "I would suggest that if they have done other things to stop this kind of vile activity and filth on the internet that they should apply it equally to me and everybody else."

As you may recall, Santorum has compared same-sex marriage to sex with dogs, has said that it’s "common sense" to keep gays from marrying and adopting children, wants to reinstate the ban on gays in the military, and has said that gays shouldn’t have the "privilege of government benefits" offered to heterosexual couples, yet Santorum claims he’s not a homophobe.
