A similar bill has been submitted to the New York Senate. Senate Republicans conferenced for several hours today, emerging with no decision on whether there would be a vote. Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos said they would convene again today.

31 out of 32 Senators need to pass it and have committed to support the bill. All that stands between it now is one vote.

clip_image006 clip_image007 clip_image008 clip_image009

Rapper Lil B, who made headlines when he announced, "I’m going to do the most controversial thing in hip hop…i’m gonna show you that words don’t mean s**t. I’m gonna make an album called ‘I’m gay,’" has released the cover art for that album.

Complex posted the art, which shows a transition from slavery to freedom:

Lil B clarifies the I’m Gay album title with an ‘I’m Happy’ in parentheses. GLAAD released a statement to XXL magazine when Lil B announced his album title: "Lil B knows that words matter. Slurs have the power to fuel intolerance. We hope that Lil B’s album title is not just a gimmick, and is really a sincere attempt to be an ally. He has the platform and the voice. We hope he uses it in a positive way."

Lil B told MTV News that he was serious:

"I got major love for the gay and lesbian community, and I just want to push less separation and that’s why I’m doing it.I hope GLAAD sees that I’m taking initial steps to break barriers."

He also said that he had been receiving death threats since he made the announcement:

"People been hitting me up like, ‘I’m gonna bash your head in,’ ‘you f—-t,’ ‘I’m gonna kill you.’…I’m not gonna stop and I’m not scared of anybody on earth. That’s why I [titled the album I’m Gay] and nobody gonna stop me."

Rise Of Same-Sex Adoptions Deflates Right-Wing Talking Point On Marriage

http://equalitymatters.org/blog/201106150008

Adoptions by gay and lesbian couples are on the rise across the U.S., despite significant legal obstacles that leave many of these couples and their families unprotected.

A June 13 New York Times article reports that, according to new census data, a growing number of same-sex couples are starting families even if they can’t legally marry.

HIV man wins cut in jail term

Michael Neal, an HIV-positive Melbourne man who willfully tried to infect others, has 19-year sentence slashed by seven years: "Neal’s trial heard allegations he had unprotected sex without telling his partners he had HIV and arranged ‘conversion parties’ to infect people. He mainly met his victims at gay venues, on gay websites or at gay beats."

Michael Neal, 52, was sentenced in 2009 to a minimum 14 years in what police believed was a world-first conviction.

On Wednesday, Victoria’s Court of Appeal partly upheld his appeal against conviction and sentence after finding the trial judge had erred in some of his directions to the jury.

His case led to the downfall of Victoria’s chief health officer Dr Robert Hall, after the Victorian government said it should have been told about Neal sooner.

The jury heard Neal had worn a genital piercing so it was easier to infect people and told a psychiatrist he had a dark side and enjoyed infecting others.

He told one victim who had seen a report that 100 Victorians had been diagnosed with HIV that he was "responsible for most of that".

The appeal judges set aside Neal’s original jail term and resentenced him to 12 years’ jail, to serve a minimum of nine years.

Pat Robertson: Hollywood Forcing Straight Actors to Play Gay Roles

clip_image013

On the 700 Club, Pat Robertson speaks to conservative writer Ben Shapiro about his new book, which accuses gays of "brainwashing Hollywood," Right Wing Watch reports.

Says a confounded Robertson: “…the American people overwhelmingly vote for traditional marriage between a man and a woman, what is it with Hollywood, I mean they are inserting gays one after another, as a matter of fact straight actors are being forced to play gay roles.”

Defense Secretary Gates Suggests ‘DADT’ Repeal Could Be Certified This Month

In an interview with the AP, Defense Secretary Robert Gates suggested that "if the top officers of each service recommend moving ahead on the repeal before the end of the month" he would endorse it:

The move to end the ban on gay services could be one of Gates’ final acts as defense chief.

More than a million U.S. troops have been trained on the new law that repealed the 17-year-old ban on gays serving openly in the armed services, and Gates said the instruction has gone well.

“I think people are pretty satisfied with the way this process is going forward,” he said. “I think people have been mildly and pleasantly surprised at the lack of pushback in the training.”

If the repeal is certified by the end of the months, troops could be serving openly as soon as September.
