Governor Rick Perry: Texas is ‘a Land of Opportunity’ Unless You’re Gay and Want to Marry Someone in the audience wanted to know if the governor of Texas wants to be the next president of the United States. “No,” Perry said. “I have no intention to go to Washington, D.C., except maybe to go to a museum, like the Smithsonian.” “There is still a land of opportunity, friends — it’s called Texas,” Perry said. “We’re creating more jobs than any other state in the nation. … Would you rather live in a state like this, or in a state where a man can marry a man?”
My favorite Emmys 2010 Top Momenthttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBEp7XawX7k&feature=player_embedded#! Can you believe Glen Beck now?American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer ripped Glenn Beck a new a-hole (so to speak) for his recent statements in support of same-sex marriage, accusing Beck of siding with “people who want to use the anus for sex.” It’s not too late to issue a mea culpa and come back into the light and be a vigorous advocate once again for the truth about marriage and the family. You have done a noble thing in calling this country back to God through your “Divine Destiny” evening at the Kennedy Center and your “Restoring Honor” event at the Lincoln Memorial. You have done a noble thing on your radio and television programs by repeatedly calling us back to our founding history and to our foundational values as a country. But Glenn, our “Divine Destiny” as a nation does not include societal approval for people who want to use the anus for sex. The “Laws of Nature and Nature’s God” don’t endorse such behavior. And neither should you. What an idiot!
AND HERE IS WHAT HE SAID, AND I QUOTE:
Glenn Beck says Gay Marriage is Not a Threat to America Bill O’Reilly asked Glenn Beck about threats to the country, and asked him his thoughts on gay marriage.
Said Beck: “Honestly, I think we have bigger fish to fry. Umm… yes there are bigger fish, but Marriage Equality is extremely important to many of our citizens.
You can argue about abortion or gay marriage or whatever all you want. The country is burning down…I don’t think marriage, that the government actually has anything to do with…that is a religious right…I believe that Thomas Jefferson said, ‘If it neither breaks my leg nor picks my pocket, what difference is it to me?’” If the country is burning down, who started the fire? You know exactly who did Mr. Beck.

PERSONAL
My two younger boys headed back to school yesterday. They are both in the 10th grade. Can you believe my youngest are that old? I can’t.Do you like these 90+ degree days? No one has been in our pool for a month. I mentioned to Ed that he should close it for the season. It is a little strange even considering it when it is so hot.

Marine Commandant: Marines May Allow Straight Soldiers to Live Separately from Gays Over ‘Moral Concerns’Back in March, Marine Corps Commandant General James Conway said that he wants separate quarters for gay troops: ”I would not ask our Marines to live with someone that is homosexual if we can possibly avoid it.”Yesterday, in a Pentagon briefing, Conway reiterated that sentiment:On a different, but related subject, Conway suggested that if the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” law is repealed, the Marines may consider allowing Marines not to share quarters with homosexuals.Conway said the Marines may make such housing arrangements “voluntary” to accommodate any “moral concerns.” He said many Marines are “very religious” and because of their moral concerns “don’t want to room” with homosexuals. But Conway stressed that if the law is repealed, the Marines would take the lead in implementing it. “We cannot be seen as dragging our feet. We’ve got two wars to fight. We’ll implement it and move on,” said Conway. You may recall that in July, when the first troop survey went out, there was concern about language that referred to “facilities adjustments” and Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell tried to allay those concerns:“…we’re asking these questions because in our engagements with the force thus far, this has been an area of some concern. Now we need to test it to see if that holds for—if it really reflects the concerns of the force, and which members of the force. Is it older members? Is it younger members? Are they, you know—which ones? And, and then along with this information, the working group will make some recommendations about how to deal with those concerns. It could be, as I said, who knows? This could be dealt with through education programs, through training programs, or it may require ‘facilities adjustments.’ But no one, no one is considering ’separate but equal’ bathing or living facilities for you know, gay and straight troops. That’s just not ever a consideration. Absolutely off the table.”As for “facilities adjustments,” Morrell told CBS he meant things like shower curtains.Sounds like Conway is talking about more than shower curtains
For all you GLEE lovers out there…
Glee’s Kurt Hummel to Date Star QuarterbackJane Lynch basically confirmed that, as suspected, Chord Overstreet has been cast as Kurt Hummel’s boyfriend on Glee.Marc Malkin reports:“They’ve cast him already,” Jane Lynch told us last night at the Audi and Chopard Emmy party when we asked about Kurt’s much-anticpiated love interest. “He becomes the new star quarterback and he’s going to be Kurt’s boyfriend.”While Lynch said she couldn’t remember the name of the actor who is playing Kurt’s beau, she described the lucky guy as “a good looking kid.”“He’s tall, boyish with straight blonde hair and big fat, pouty lips,” she said.Glee is a musical comedy-drama television series that airs on Fox in the United States. It focuses on a high school show choir (a modern glee club) called “New Directions”, at the fictional William McKinley High School in Lima, OhioThe new GLEE season begins Sept. 21.
From 365gay.com we have this story…
Child of lesbian parents denied enrollment to school
By Celeste Lavin, 365gay.com
Jill and Tracy Harrison were not allowed to enroll their daughter, Olivia, in the St. Vincent’s School in Bedford, TX.Send / ShareAdd CommentIn June the Harrisons applied to enroll Olivia in the school. On the application, they crossed out the word “father” and instead indicated that Olivia has two mothers, according to MSNBC. When the mothers attended parents’ night on Tuesday, just a week before the first day of school, they were told that Olivia could not enroll in the school because her mothers were a lesbian couple.“I am horribly disappointed. In fact, we are in the 21st century and we are still dealing with this issue. We should just move on. Denying my daughter education based on who I end up sleeping with at the end of the day makes me furious,” said Jill. The school is associated with the Anglican Church, a change since it recently parted its ties with the Episcopal Church. The Episcopal Church is facing a split, as some dioceses are accepting of gays and lesbians, and some are not. The Episcopal Church selected openly gay Gene Robinson to be a bishop in 2003. It is considered the only mainstream church to have ever selected an openly gay bishop who was not celibate.“It’s hard to believe that a place that’s supposed to take in and teach children about God and the basics of religion would actually discriminate against her because of who we are,” said Tracy. We are a church affiliated with the Anglican Church in North America, and it is their policy that we don’t provide services to individuals or families that do not behave properly. We’re going off our canons that say ‘The Anglican Church in North America affirms our Lord’s teaching that the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony is in its nature a union permanent and lifelong of one man and one woman,” said Kenneth Monk, head of the school. The Harrison’s were refunded their application fee and enrolled Olivia in a secular school where same-sex parents are okay.

Modern Family’s Gay Kiss is ComingIt’s probably coming on the second season’s fourth episode, and the actors are trying to prepare you for it.E!’s Marc Malkin and Brett Malec spoke with them at an Emmy kick-off party this week.Warned Jesse Tyler Ferguson: “Don’t expect a Gone With the Wind type of thing happening, I know the fans would like that. We’re doing an episode about Mitchell’s fear of PDA, so it’s not the kiss episode per se, but yeah. It’s going to be a really poignant, beautiful thing but less of an ordeal than people think it is.”Added Eric Stonestreet: “It’s a sweet moment for our show, not just a sweet moment for Mitch and Cam.” Presbyterian Minister on Trial for Marrying Gay Couples in CaliforniaA Presbyterian court is set to hear the case of the Reverend Jane Spahr, who married same-sex couples when gay marriage was legal in California, before Proposition 8 was passed. The L.A. Times adds:“The case of the Rev. Jane Adams Spahr has gained national attention because ‘what is being tested is the definition of marriage’ in the Presbyterian faith, said the Rev. Carmen Fowler, president of the Presbyterian Lay Committee, a conservative organization that opposes same-sex marriage…Although the Presbyterian constitution does not explicitly prohibit same-sex marriage, it defines marriage as ‘a civil contract between a woman and a man.’ But same-sex marriage is legal in five states and the District of Columbia and is working its way through the courts in California.”The potential punishment?“If found guilty, Spahr faces censure that could include being defrocked. But the San Francisco resident, who lives with her son and granddaughter, does not think such punishment is likely. She sees the trial as ‘a tremendous opportunity to invite the church to become open, to listen to the stories of these amazing couples,’ she said. ‘I hope that more hearts and minds are opened.’”
California Senate Passes ‘Gay Cure’ Bill, Resolution to Repeal DOMAA measure to remove an archaic California law that required state health officials to seek a cure for homosexuality, which was passed by the California Assembly in April, passed the full Senate yesterday on a 36-0 vote with no debate:“The bill updating a 60-year-old law was sent back to the Assembly Monday for final action. The law passed in 1950 classifies gays as sexual deviants. It requires the Department of Mental Health to research the causes and potential cures for homosexuality. The bill, AB2199, was carried by Sen. Roy Ashburn, a Republican from Bakersfield. Ashburn revealed he was gay earlier this year after he was cited for driving drunk while leaving a gay bar.”The California Senate also passed a resolution calling on President Obama to repeal DOMA:“The state Senate voted 22-12 Monday for a resolution urging that the 1996 law be overturned. It defines marriage as being between a man and a woman and allows states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states. The Assembly approved AJR19 last August.” VIDEO (3.5M)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKeeG-T6HNk&feature=player_embedded#! Dr. Laura Says She is Ending Her Radio Show Dr. Laura Schlessinger told Larry King last night that condemnations following her use of the N-word 11 times on her radio show last week have made her decide to end the show:“Well, I’m here to say that my contract is up for my radio show at the end of the year and I have made the decision not to do radio anymore. The reason is: I want to regain my First Amendment rights. I want to be able to say what’s on my mind, and in my heart, what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is a time to silence a voice of dissent, and attack affiliates and attack sponsors…I’m sort of done with that. I’m not retiring. I’m not quitting. I feel energized actually, stronger and freer to say the things that I believe need to be said for people in this country…I write books. I have blogs. I have my Web site…This is the area — this is the era of the Internet.”

Iowa GOP Condemns Republican Candidate Jeremy Walters for Saying AIDS is Punishment for Sin of HomosexualityJeremy Walters, an Iowa GOP candidate for Congress, running in House District 67 against state Rep. Kevin McCarthy, D-Des Moines, posted a series of messages on Facebook last week suggesting that AIDS is a punishment for homosexuality. The Iowa Independent first noted the messages, posting screenshots (above) on its website. The Des Moines Register reports that the Republican Party of Iowa has condemned Walters’ remarks:“The civil rights group One Iowa on Tuesday called for the Republican Party of Iowa to disavow the comments by Walters, who is challenging state Rep. Kevin McCarthy, a Democrat, in House District 67. Later Tuesday, Matt Strawn, the party’s chairman, said in a statement: ‘Mr. Walters’ comments are inappropriate and in no way represent the beliefs of the Republican Party of Iowa. HIV/AIDS does not discriminate, and our hearts and prayers go out to any Iowa family facing this disease.’ Walters at first told the Register that he had no plans to remove the posts. But he said Tuesday night that after talking to Republican officials, he took the messages down. ‘I’m sorry, that’s how I felt because I had friends that passed away of having AIDS,’ said Walters, a stay-at-home dad who works part time cleaning cars. A party spokeswoman said Walters had planned to volunteer at the party’s State Fair booth but will not be allowed to do so.” ——————————————————

Kathy Griffin on Prop 8 - ‘Same-Sex Marriage a Civil Rights Issue’Kathy Griffin made a rather serious appearance (for her) on Larry King Live to discuss the Prop 8 decision and why she supports marriage equality
—————————————————– Elisabeth Hasselbeck: ‘I Actually Support Gay Marriage’The View’s Elisabeth Hasselbeck tries to clear up some misconceptions about her in an interview with Fancast:“I am not ultra-ultra-conservative on every issue. I actually support gay marriage. I think the gay marriage thing would definitely surprise people. I mean, for some people, it will surprise them to the point that they won’t want to hear it. ‘No, that can’t be, I really want to have this sort of idea of her in my head,’ so I sort of rain on their parade there. I am a person that does believe that life begins at conception, but I also don’t believe that the government should tell women what to do with their bodies. So I’m torn there in terms of supporting laws [for or against abortion]. I always say I would rather change a heart than a law. I think it has to start there. Always trying to mandate, mandate, mandate this or that is not the way that I believe this country should run.”In December 2008, Hasselbeck irked Melissa Etheridge on The View with regard to Prop 8, arguing that the majority should be allowed to vote on the rights of the minority. Hasselbeck also seemed to struggle with the concept of marriage equality in a discussion with Portia de Rossi a year later, asking “Take men and women. Women want all the rights of men, but they’re not asking to be called men. Do you think…is the word [marriage] more important than the rights?”

I know it is been a while. But, I am back and full of more info than ever!
Chicago was fun but more family oriented which is OK, actually better than OK. We also went to rehoboth Beach for a week and stayed at our friend’s (and Pittsburgh’s Out advertiser) bed and breakfast called the Lighthouse Inn. www.lighthouseinn.net. Jerry and Matt were the perfect hosts. We got to shop, eat at RB’s fabulous restaurants, hang at the beach and much more. There was even time to visit Randy and Tim at their bar, The Blue Moon.
Check out the following info we used on Talk It Out recently. You can check out TIO every Monday-Friday at noon on http://www.outonline.com or one of our many other fine shows for our community.

Neil Patrick Harris And David Burtka Expecting Twins
Harris tweeted the news a few days ago. Congrats go out to the dads to be.According to E Online, the two are using a surrogate. The babies are due in October. The congratulations are just starting to poor in. Ricky Martin took to his Twitter account to give his best wishes: “Congratz!!! rest a lot sleep, cause you wont ever again… hehe blessings to you and your family.”
Talk Radio Host Stephanie Miller: “I’m A Gay Woman”
Progressive talk radio host Stephanie Miller came out on her show Satyurday. She prefaced the big announcement with two back to back tweets: “There may be a lot of crying next hour” and “Stick around for the next hour. Mama’s got something to tell you.” Once on the air, she revealed: “I’m a gay woman. I’ve got the gay on me.”Miller, who has been out to her friends and family for years, credited Chely Wright’s recent coming out as inspiration. She joked to the country music star, who joined her on the show after the big reveal, “You get a toaster oven for recruiting me.” Miller’s father was William E. Miller, who was Republican Barry Goldwater’s running mate in his unsuccessful bid for the US presidency in 1964. Goldwater himself famously said about gays serving in the military: “you don’t have to be straight to shoot straight.”Miller says that, despite being a lesbian, she still thinks firemen are “hot.” Then again, who doesn’t?
American Bar Association Urges All States to Allow Gay MarriageThe American Bar Association approved the following resolution today at its annual meeting in San Francisco:“RESOLVED, That the American Bar Association urges state, territorial, and tribal governments to eliminate all of their legal barriers to civil marriage between two persons of the same sex who are otherwise eligible to marry.”The measure was proposed by the New York State Bar Association, the AP reports: “New York State Bar Association President Stephen P. Younger says the resolution passed overwhelmingly, with only one speaker voicing opposition during debate.”Said Chad Griffin, Board President of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, the plaintiffs in the Prop 8 lawsuit:“With this action, the American Bar Association has affirmed the principles upon which this nation was founded—that every American is vested with certain inalienable rights and that all Americans are created equal. The ABA’s action is significant in that it represents a broad consensus among scholars and practitioners of the law. The ABA is the nation’s leading legal organization and is the one charged with recommending judges and setting national standards for attorneys. This case is not about ideology or politics, and the ABA’s resolution underscores that. Rather, Perry v. Schwarzenegger is a case grounded in fundamental constitutional law and precedent, including equal protection under the law and due process. By approving a resolution in support of marriage equality, the ABA has confirmed what the federal courts, the state’s chief executive and the state’s chief law enforcement officer have determined in Perry v. Schwarzenegger—that excluding gay men and lesbians from marriage violates their constitutional right to due process and equal protection and causes significant harm to them and their families.”

Good morning, good afternoon or good evening depending on when you are reading this. OK…HELLO is simple enough. Wishing you a good day.
Raising kids, running a newspaper and keeping up with the website http://www.outonline.com certainly consumes a large portion of my time. Being a good husband consumes the rest. Just kidding Ed. I really enjoy what I do and am delighted to be a father, husband, talk show host and publisher.
Having the opportunity to hit the local nightlife scene, I can attest to it improving and state it is alive and kicking. There have been a few straight clubs going gay and then straight again but the many gay establishments continue to fight it out and demand their piece of the pie throughout the current recession.
What always amazes me is when struggling businesses tighten the budget, they slash their advertising dollars, a time when they should be advertising more. This causes a ripple effects that takes months to overcome. Simply stated, an absence of ads sends the message of an absence of customers. No one will admit to being a fan of a deserted club. We like crowds and nothing says we are still around and busy like an ad. Out of site, out of mind.
I am proud to admit that our oldest child is graduating from college this weekend. Everything is on track at home and at Out. OTV Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh’s Out and the website all continue to grow. The website had an amazing 10,000 hits last Thursday. We have added new programs and the community has responded in record numbers. Thanks for reading the newspaper and tuning in to http://www.outonline.com. We do it all for you!
The May issue of Out is on the newsstand and available everywhere. Lots of good read and advertising support. Mnay of you have commented on this issue. I must admit, this issue looks fantastic. Lots of color and great quality from the printing press. Again, all done for you!
Pride is coming! www.pittsburghpride.org. So is our deadline for our best issue of the year. Out’s JUNE PRIDE issue promises to be one of the best of the year. Advertise your business or tell your friends or boss to advertise. By placing an ad in this issue, you show your support for the LGBT community to record number of people. We plan to print to thousands of extra copies. Deadline for display ads is Friday, May 14. Call or email me 412-381-3350, tony@outonline.com to get more information. You will be delighted at how easy and inexpensive placing an ad can be. Sponsorships and banner ads are also available on www.outonline.com for as little as $6/day for a banner and $150/month for sponsorship.
Watch my show today and every Monday through Friday at 12 noon. www.outonline.com
Until next time kids…
Keep Reading…
